Some advice for successful play
Try to play the lowest tone with a soft breath and continue from tone to tone. Try to get used to the invervals. Repeat the tones by shaping a T with your tongue while breathing the air quickly into the flute. That way you can play repeated tones rather quickly.
Also try Ta-Ka, Ka-Ta, Ta-Ki-Ta or rolling an R with your tonge. Now try to close the underside openig with your index finger while playing a tone. You will hear the tone changing. Train to coordinate the movements of your fingers with the pitch. Doing so you can play every tone individually with a T-tongue or letting the air flow without any interruption.
A jazzy variation is to "slip" the tones. For that you cover only half of the underside opening and pull your finger away while blowing so that the opening will be completely open again. That way the so-called "blue notes" are created: tones that are below the common mood.
