The way of playing the flute to its optimal sound
It is best to play the fairy flute by holding it in a way that the opening at the mouthpiece faces down to you. Your upper lip lies on the round top surface, your lower lip only touches the edge of the mouthpiece. Air should be blown into the flute only through the small opening at the upper ring.
While trying this you will soon notice: the stronger you blow into the flute the higher the pitch. By blowing in different intensity you create various tones. To get a clearer tone you should form a T with your tongue while blowing. You will notice that your tongue quicly clicks from your upper jaw suddenly letting the air out.
Now try to close the opening at the underside with your index finger or middle finger while playing a tone. You will hear the tone changing. Train to coordinate the movements of your fingers with the pitch. Doing so rhythm and tempo play an important role. Vary both. The art is to find your own rhythm in connection to your breath while opening and closing the underside opening. The longer you practise this the more variety your play will have.
